Manuel Añón Escriba was born in Calella (Barcelona) in 1969, in a long dinasty of musicians. He combined his high school studies and metallurgy studies with his music training. In the decade 1980-1990 he performed as pianist and percussionist in different rock and popular music groups in the Valencian Community (Spain). He studied at the Conservatorio Superior in Valencia (Spain) finishing the degrees in musicology, composition (First Class with Distinction and Career Prize), pedagogy, solfa and piano.
Teacher of harmony at Conservatorio Superior (2004) and Salvador Seguí (Castellón/Spain) (2005/2007). He have completed his research doctorate at the Polytechnic University of Valencia The genesis in the musialc poetic of Luis de Pablo. Now he’s preparing his future doctoral thesis Spanish music in the 51 generation.
He studied composition with David del Puerto, Azio Corghi, Jesús Rueda, José Manuel López, Mauricio Sotelo. For eight years until now, he’s studying composition with Luis de Pablo. He have studied conducting with D. Juan Luís Martínez.
For several years he was dedícated to Historical Musicology, making studies and investigations on the instrumental and vocal music of the Valencian Baroque, that produce the work Music at the times of the Borgia Popes. Since 2001 till today he writes articles for Valencian Community magazines specialized in folk music and publications specialized in art and contemporary music.
He won the Injuve Prize in Encuentros de Composición Iberoamericanos in Mollina (Málaga/Spain). Studies in Composition at Accademia Musicale Chigiana (Siena/Italy), 2001 and 2003. Composition Course “Villafranca del Bierzo” (León /Spain), 2003.
He have received several scolarships of la Junta de Andalucía for Composition studies in Cátedra Manuel de Falla. Years: 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Commision for the International Festival of Contemporary Music Espai Sonor 2007 (Sueca, Valencia, Spain).
His works have been performed by the Ensemble InterContemporain, resident Ensemble Accademia Musicale Chigiana, resident Ensemble Injuve, Taller Sonoro, Ensemble Espai Sonor, pianista Albert Nieto, etc.
