Matteo Franceschini, born in Trento in 1979, studied clarinet under Mauro Pedron (obtaining his diploma) and began his composition studies with Armando Franceschini, later graduating from the Conservatoire in Milan under the guidance of Alessandro Solbiati. He attended workshops given by Luca Francesconi and studied conducting with Sandro Gorli.
He studied at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, under the supervision of Azio Corghi and at the moment he’s attending the second year at Cursus Annuel de Composition et d'Informatique Musicale offered by the IRCAM, in Paris.
He has received several prizes, both in national and international competitions, like “Tactus” (Brussels), «Guido d'Arezzo», "Il Giornale della Musica", among others; moreover he has received commissions from the Venice Biennale, RAI (Italian National Radio), AGON, Divertimento Ensemble, Nuova Consonanza and Festival Pontino.
His works have been performed in various festivals, for instance 49th and 51st Venice Biennale Festival (RAI National Symphony Orchestra and Divertimento Ensemble), Settembre Musica in Turin (Ensemble Europeo Antidogma Musica), Rondò in Milan (Divertimento Ensemble), Festival Pontino in Rome, IRCAM in Paris, Sound Ways in Saint Petersburg, Conservatory of Beijing, Nederlandse Muziekdagen (Koor Nieuwe Muziek and Orchestra of Dutch Radio), Symphonic Season of the National Orchestra of Belgium, Festival för ny musik (Helsingborgs Symphoniorckester), Acanthes 2005 (Orchestre National de Lorraine). He had broadcasts on RAI, Radio of Italian Switzerland (RTSI), Dutch Radio (NPS) and Belgian Radio (RTBF).
He has realized soundtracks for short movies as well as music for theatre; moreover, he has worked together with Adriano Abbado at the staging of a multimedia installation for the Triennale of Milan, in occasion of MilanoMusica festival.
He held lectures at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris and at the Festival de Música do Estoril in Portugal.
His music is published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni - Sugarmusic S.p.A., Milan.
